Hermann, Missouri History, Wine and Town & Country Garden Tour – Saturday, June 6, 2020
We arrive at the Historic Hermann Museum at 9:45 a.m. for a step back in time at the Old German School Museum. Used as an elementary school until 1955, the museum contains a large assortment of memorabilia from the early days of this town. The period costumed guides make this experience really come to life. Yes, ladies, there is a gift shop with lots of gift items that reflect the German culture and heritage.
Next on our schedule, the Vintage Restaurant that opened in 1979 at Stone Hill Winery. This restaurant is a great conversion from what was formerly the carriage house and horse barn of the winery. Our menu: German Style Pork Schnitzel (The House Specialty – thinly pounded hand-breaded pork loin cutlet that is pan fried and topped with Dill Sour Cream Sauce), Rustic German Potato Salad and Braised Red Cabbage, Rolls, Beverage and Spiced Apple Cake with Glaze.
Following lunch, we have included the admission to one of the historic tasting rooms. We will have the opportunity to taste some of Stone Hill Winery's award winning wines and shop in their expansive gift shop.
The highlight of the day is when our guide boards our coach with us for a wonderful afternoon of touring the local gardens. Members of the Garden Club have spent countless hours planting and designing their home gardens as well as the town's gardens. We will stop at multiple homes to enjoy the beautiful blooms. This marks the 26th Anniversary of the Town & Garden Tour. The money raised is for scholarships and beautification projects.
